Kickoff of TUF Program in Two New Partner Schools
On 2nd September 2013, TUF began a new chapter of its journey with the kickoff of its one-of-a-kind school-based education support and mentorship program in two new partner schools – Caritas Yuen Long Chan Chun Ha Secondary School and Maryknoll Secondary School. Each school receives the support of two program mentors who work to enhance the learning attitudes and self-esteem of disadvantaged students through a variety of English-based dynamic learning experiences.
Believed to be the only full-time, school-based mentorship program operating in Hong Kong, the TUF program is delivered by a team of high caliber university graduates who have been trained and are coached to be effective role models in inspiring and motivating students with extra learning barriers. Program mentors reach out to students, and identify and address to their needs using English tutoring as the platform.
To properly prepare for the challenges, all program mentors attended a one-month intensive training in August, including lectures and workshops on a variety of topics. Additionally, program mentors participate in a two-year leadership development program that involves monthly leadership training and on-going support from a personal leadership coach.
TUF is a registered charity with a mission to improve life time education opportunities of disadvantaged students in Hong Kong. Thanks to the funding support of Operations Santa Claus 2012 and a private benefactor, TUF managed to expand its program to two additional government-aided secondary schools for the academic year 2013-2015. Altogether, TUF runs five school-based mentorship programs serving over 3500 students in Tsuen Wan, Fanling, Yuen Long, Wong Tai Sin and Ngua Tau Kok.
